Center for Complexity Studies NGO - Romania
|
Established in 1996 as an NGO, the Center for Complex Studies (CSC – Centrul pentru Studii Complexe)
has taken charge of promoting the paradigm of Complexity in Romania. At the present time, the center's
activities occur under the patronage of UNESCO.
CCS is the first and most important Complexity Think-Tank from Romania. Through its activities, CCS
constitutes itself as a bridge which connects an academic approach with a pragmatic one; with the purpose
of using and building on new theories, models, concepts and notions supplied by studies as well as
research taking place in the domain of non-linear phenomena (dynamic systems, synergy, self-organization,
theory of deterministic chaos, fractal geometry).
Mission
The goal of CCS (research, feasibility studies, design, consulting) is to use and build on the intellect and
expertise of specialists in the field of (Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Medicine, Architecture, Design,
Psychology, Informatics, Artificial languages) which target the development of human performance
and the improvement in quality of life. In addition, CCS focuses on actively contributing to the reshaping
of the Romanian economy and society, through the implementation of A Knowledge Based Society.
Strategy
In order to carry out its objectives, CSC
- CCS will act as a thematic filter at the theory/application interface.
- The structuring of research programs and projects with large-scale impact or with absolute novelty
will be utilizing the concept of Open Project for this purpose.
- When taking on a task, CCS looks for the formation of adequate teams.
- We will identify the potential beneficiaries of the research/development projects among companies
and businessmen from Romania, capable of transforming the idea/prototype in a product or with a
viable market strategy.
- CCS will identify financial sources, preparing the necessary documentation for bidding.
Domains of interest
- Complexity Science (self-organization and pattern formation, non-linear systems and deterministic
chaos, fractal geometry, self-organized criticality, network dynamics, intelligent agents etc.).
- Advanced methods of signal analysis for applications in Engineering, Economics/Finance and
Medicine.
- Bio-Economics.
- Fundamental research for the purpose of creating and developing a “ nucleus of knowledge based
society.”
- New methods, concepts and pedagogical models (e-learning, strategy and management of learning
processes);
Financing
CCS projects receive financial support from both Romanian and International sources including, Ministry of
Education and Research, The Romanian Academy, European Union, PHARE and USAID Program, as well
as a number of private Romanian enterprises.
