The Center for Complexity Studies places an intense focus on education, i.e., on creating awareness, instilling a novel mentality, and encouraging a pro-active attitude towards protecting Nature and cherishing biological and cultural diversity. The key vehicle in achieving these aims is an original and non-formal educational method, NEXUS-T. It endeavors to develop in youngsters the following human and mental qualities:
- Attention, consciousness and awareness at all external and internal levels.
- Aptitude to grasp and coherently operate with abstract notions.
- Curiosity and the capacity to investigate processes and phenomena.
- Derivative-integrative reasoning capabilities (deducing specifics by narrowing down the field of focus, but also understanding general laws by mapping and assembling disparate ‘puzzle pieces’ into a larger and coherent picture).
- Capability to synthesize data and generate knowledge;
- A spirit of tolerance, cooperation and teamwork.
- An understanding of the value of diversity.
In order to achieve these goals and implement NEXUS-T, CCS champions a continuous learning process, consistently instilling and shaping the vocation of Searcher-Researcher. Through this complex process and multilevel methodology, CCS contributes actively towards a change of mentality, necessary at all levels of our society. On the one hand, this change is urged on by the swift changes in the social, economic, and political structures that we are witnessing in the world today, the clear globalization trend, and the increasing assertion of the knowledge-based society. On the other hand, this mentality change is crucial to the large-scale restructuring effort in present-day Romania.
Products and services
- Seminars and summer schools for students and young researchers on topics related to complexity and nonlinear dynamics. CCS has a successful history of more than 15 years of organizing summer schools, many of which had international attendance. This effort is receiving both governmental and private funding. Here’s more on our educational activity.
- Training courses and consultancy for business and industry representatives, aimed to promote the new insights, knowledge, and practical skills brought out by the science of complexity. Here’s more on our training program.
- Graduate courses in Complexity at the University of Bucharest. CCS is currently offering a course within the International Master Program in Biodynamics, held in partnership with the International Center of Biodynamics in Bucharest.
- An interactive web portal dedicated to knowledge dissemination:
