The workshop participants started to arrive on July 26. The first to make it were the delegates from Georgia, who seem to have already made themselves comfortable at the Herastrau Complex in the North of Bucharest, where the event is taking place. The proof: the first discussions have already started (see photos; click to enlarge).

The first meeting of the participants to the Workshop on Sustainable Development and World Heritage gave the ones who had arrived on Thursday the chance to know each other and share their expectations concerning this project. After a brief introduction from UNESCO representatives, the participants enjoyed a welcoming reception. The party went on well into the summer night. We can only hope they will get up early enough for the start of the workshop ....

Visit to the Caldarusani Laboratory of the Romanian Academy Institute of Geodynamics. It’s a peaceful place, placed right outside the walls of the ancient Caldarusani monastery, on the banks of a lake. The only thing we could think of was taking a dip... the heat was exhausting!

We were welcomed by the Director, dr. Dorel Zugravescu, by his team at the Institute, and by the head monk. The fabulous meal we received courtesy of the monastery relaxed us and gave us the fuel for the discussion session.

While the Seniors (dubbed “The Certainties”) followed the presentation schedule, the Juniors (a.k.a. “The Hopefuls”) gathered around Florin Munteanu from the Center for Complexity Studies, who gave them a quick introduction to Geodynamics and explained the need for Complexity Science in a successful approach to sustainable development.
